Stuff you never knew you wanted to know about.

Open Site Explorer Bookmarklet

We all use Open Site Explorer, if you’re like me you’ll use it a lot, it’s a great tool, very functional. To make things easier, and because I’m so lazy, I’ve been working on a bookmarklet to open the current page in OSE with one click.

Mediaworks have this great post with two versions. Both open the DOMAIN of the current page in OSE, either in the same window or a new tab.

I needed more functionality than that, I wanted a bookmarklet which would open the current PAGE in OSE, in a new tab, showing only 301′d and followed links from outside the current domain.

So here it is:

301 & followed OSE

Click and drag the link to your bookmark bar. This is my first foray into javascript, so it’s possible (likely) that it’s not very stable but it’s been working fine for me since I made it (a whole half day). If you can think of any other configurations which might be useful let me know and I’ll add them to the post. Otherwise feel free to take the code and use it as you will.

  2. great amends Jason. Seems stable to me too. Useful for anyone looking at metrics on a page level.

Thanks Daniel! I wouldn’t have been able to make this without Mediaworks though, your post was the catalyst for this. I’m glad you like it!

Good work. The one I had previously only loaded the domain. I was just thinking about modifying it when I found your post. Thanks for sharing saved me some hair pulling.
